The Tram

It started with a tram. A straightforward photograph — the kind any competent photographer might take — of the famous Great Orme Tramway in Llandudno. But when the transformation process first encountered the faint surface texture of the flagstones, something unexpected happened. It seized upon them, strengthened them, and began migrating great sweeping glyphs across the entire image until the tram itself became almost incidental.

What emerged was not a photograph of a tram but something closer to an ancient inscription — vast, expressive marks that suggest language without offering meaning. Like a Rosetta Stone waiting for an academic to spend years deciphering, this piece invites you to look for sense in the symbols, and rewards you for not quite finding it.

This was the image that started everything. The work that sent the artist down the rabbit hole.

Each work is the result of many recurrent iterations — a slow, cumulative process in which the algorithm repeatedly returns to the same surface pattern, strengthening and migrating it across the image until the original subject fractures and gives way to the metallic sheens, stained glass luminosity and calligraphic forms that define these prints. This is not a single-step filter. It is a process of gradual transformation, and the outcome of each iteration is never fully predictable.
