Strange Seas

We are, most definitely, not in Kansas anymore. The ship in Strange Seas is still there — readable, real, anchored in the composition — but everything around it has departed from the knowable world entirely.

Look up and the sky has become the margin of an illuminated manuscript, dense with coded calligraphy that no scriptorium ever produced. Gilt-edged and intricate, the marks suggest devotional annotation — commentary on a text we cannot read, in a language that was never spoken.

Look down and the sea has become something else again: a mosaic of reflective blues and magentas, tessellated into shifting blocks of colour, with deeper and more complex notation lying beneath — as if the ocean has its own submerged manuscript, visible only through the surface.

The ship sails on, oblivious. The world around it has transformed beyond recognition.

Each work is the result of many recurrent iterations — a slow, cumulative process in which the algorithm repeatedly returns to the same surface pattern, strengthening and migrating it across the image until the original subject fractures and gives way to the metallic sheens, stained glass luminosity and calligraphic forms that define these prints. This is not a single-step filter. It is a process of gradual transformation, and the outcome of each iteration is never fully predictable.
